The Sacred Contract
The Doctor, the Patient
and the Soul
Medicine serves healing. It is not “healing”.
Healing happens uniquely through each and every individual. The
course of
healing is the mystery to which we look for answers to who we are
and what are our innate and greatest possibilities.
 The Sacred Contract is our spiritual commitment to our self, to
our Life, to those around us, and if we are a physician, to those
we serve for the purpose of healing. The Sacred Contract is the spiritual
blueprint for the work we will do, the lessons to be learned, and
the relationship we forge with our self, our community, and our patients.
In our work, we will explore the nature of our
Sacred Contract, to help us define what that is for ourselves as
individuals, and
to become more conscious of how we engage with our patients and their
healing as we attempt to understand and honor what their Sacred Contract
may be as well. How does one forge a healing alliance with one’s
spiritual self, and with the powerful resilience of the human spirit?
For where the sacred is honored between patient and physician, healing
takes place both ways.
The Sacred Contract program is designed to develop
one’s innate
skills in working at a deeper level of awareness. The material is
highly dynamic, utilizing active experiential exercises, group inquiry
and discussion, and personal reflection.
Learning objectives for the program: (1) To recognize
the spiritual forces which shape our lives: (2) To understand how
the healer and
the healed are in a spiritual union/communion which serves both individuals;
(3) To begin to recognize and manifest one's own spiritual blueprint
that is our life's calling and our life's lesson; (4) To learn how
suffering and illness can be catalysts for personal transformation
and growth - that healing may be different from "curing".
